Beam

Often we are so accustomed
To being comforted by darkness
That when someone pours forth
Beams of light into our eyes
We canot help but be blinded
By the sudden surge and seek
Refuge again in the arms of
Darkness

It is understandable. It is okay
We do not have to accept
The whole sunshine at once
Take it in slowly, steadily
Accustom ourselves to a world
Of light with only a shade of
Darkness

Gradually but definitely we will
Find that we are glad we
Opened our eyes to the brightness
Instead of seeking shelter
Inside the frigid abode of
Darkness

  1. Isn’t it very often that the sunlight is imposed upon us, and it actually is not under our control to take it slow? We do feel left behind if we don’t let the process be abrupt. Yes we’re blinded, but atleast we are at the correct pace and soon the excess brightness will go. Taking it slow feels like darkness, and that further pushes you to darkness because you don’t immediately see the light

    1. That’s a valid point of view. Sometimes such circumstances are very subjective and will depend from person to person and their personal way of reacting. There is no right or wrong way as long as you’re moving forward
