A Flawed Creator

It is clear, as far as I can see
That if this world was created
By a superhuman being
He didn’t do a very good job of it

Consider the proposition: if
He was employed by a company
Would his boss look at his project and say
— “That’s a masterpiece
I couldn’t find a single flaw in it”?

This world is flawed
Life is more and more about survival
And less and less about happiness
It doesn’t matter which life I am talking about

Plants fight for more sunlight
Animals kill each other for food
Humans deceive each other to climb the ladder of life
It is a dog-eat-dog world

A masterpiece?
Flawless?
Nah, far from it
If the world is flawed then it cannot be made by a flawless creator
If the world is flawed then the creator must be flawed too
Just like the rest of us

  1. Indeed, God’s project is light, life and harmony. As for its realization, it’s still a work in progress, as creation continues. And God is working on it. Contrary to what we’ve sometimes heard, God is eternal, but that doesn’t mean he’s timeless. Even for God. On the other hand, God calls us to join the construction team.
He makes life possible, inspires the best, calls for positive evolution.
I think that our faults, our indifference, our pride, our selfishness and malice are doing damage instead of moving the things in the right direction. ☺

  2. The world is flawed because of people, not God. God created it perfectly – perfect and complete for its purpose, which means it was what it needed to be for His spirit children to come and experience mortal life apart from Him. God said that it was ‘very good’.

The reason there is decay – evil, etc. – in the world is not because there’s something wrong with the Creation, but because the Adversary came and wanted to use it for his own purposes. He put evil thoughts into the hearts of men, and things began to go wrong. God sent angels and prophets to tell them they’d gone astray and call them back to the right way; some listened and some did not. Evil doesn’t come from God – but He allows it for the time being, so that people can live out their lives and develop in character and knowledge, and be judged clearly and fairly – based on what they’ve actually done, not just what they might do.

God sent His Son to atone for our sins and transgressions; to make things right again. The choice is each person’s, to accept that or not. If not, they are in the power of the devil; if they do, they can be made right, bit by bit, through God’s grace. This is the story, over and over, of mankind, as we read it in the scriptures. God has given us free will – agency – to choose good over evil. He doesn’t force things to be perfect, but gives all the opportunity for them to become so. Perfection is becoming whole; complete. If there is disorder, God can turn it to order; but it has to be freely chosen.

This earth and its surrounds are beautiful; wonderful and amazing. God has created everything so perfectly that it has just the conditions needed for us to exist and to thrive. Considering all the alternatives – which you can find if you look at the science – it’s wonderfully perfect. There is no problem with Creation; there’s a problem with people only. Even they will be perfected, in time, if they choose to be. Even all of this is in God’s plan.

  3. I like your honest poem. I see it the opposite though. We humans are very flawed and our perceptions about perfection don’t fit the kind of perfection in the creation or in God. I believe God is Spirit, characterized by Love, Life, Peace, Justice, Mercy…I could go on for awhile but by faith I hold those spiritual ideals as a guide in a world that is pretty messed up because of our lousy choices and our drive for human perfection. I like comparing what I believe to what others believe so, don’t think I’m trying to change you. This is my honest response to your poem.

  4. Interesting perception, I have made products that work perfectly well until the people who buy them get their hands on them. It’s worth reading the historical records of all the creation accounts they point to a perfect creation and interference.

Your final analysis is also flawed because if I don’t read the instructions and follow direction how is it the manufacturers fault that the product doesn’t work.

The Creator is perfect, the creation was perfect but decided it didn’t need the creator it exercised freewill and the flaws are the product of thousands of years of poor decision making by the product. But thanks for sharing the poem.

  5. If LOVE were simple then, for sure
We’d know the blessings it truly bestows:
    We’d rid our life of sad refrains, begot of earthly woes;
Our wholesome love remaining ever pure.

When virtue lies in every thought and deed,
Or promise of a future time be met.
Then likewise your sweet kisses or your warm embrace
Would seal the bargain and, God speed,
There would be no cause for some sad regret.
For, as the seasons and the tides may turn,
Then our two souls would re-unite and face
The passions that in time do burn or lead astray
Like fortune’s grace, so pied, go contraire on each day,
As winsome and capricious as you please.

If FAITH were ample in our mind and heart
As harvest baskets in the fall, so
Our dear souls then ne’er would part,
And happiness and joy would reign supreme.

Then our sweet lips would meet and trembling taste
Just once the pleasure on our wedding day,
Before those gathered so expectant round the kirk.
So bountiful, so full of worth, no more the days to waste
In restless hours spent seeking fleeting pleasure.
Then, surely bliss and joy would come our way?
Great store we’d place in our small treasure,
Not so beguiled by worldly stealth to idly lurk,
    For, as they say with mirth in measure;
    – “True marriages are made in heaven, not on Earth”.

If HOPE were constant as the day, that
Shines most glorious as the Sun at noon,
Then our soft, spoken vows in time reflect
As does the gentle radiance of the Moon.

      1. I’ve learned to search my heart
To guide me through this present time,
I’ve learned to search my subtle mind
And to select the proper time and space
        To play my poets’ part;
I’ve learned to search my heart.

I’ve learned to search my soul
At times when I could find it
And hear its soothing phrase extol
Though you were keen to bind it.
I‘ve felt the secrets in my soul,
I’ve learned to search my heart.

I’ve learned to search my body too,
Lest it might harbour any ill towards
My subtle heart and mind, they often do,
And if my conscience may remove
The conflicts borne of hate and love,
I’ve learned to search my heart.

I’ve learned to search my mind
        Alas, too often I’d construe
With many doubts of lesser kind,
        Our recollections now being blind
        In fading memories we knew,
And learned to search our heart.

I’ve learned to search my heart
It’s all a lonely man can do
To purge himself of hidden flaws.
So as this outer light withdraws
I’ll feign at last a hidden, silent part,
And there I’ll search my heart.

I’ve learned to search my heart,
Indeed my soul and spirit too
So now the final word is yours
When faced with all the options
        Those closed or open doors,
        The key to your solutions?
        – Is learn to search your heart?
