Oft’ I wonder
Long into the night
About this enigma
This mystery called Love
What is it?
Who has it and who has it not?
How does it happen? Can it be predicted?
Do we control it or does it control us?
Which organ is to be held responsible?
Is it worth it? Is it frivolous?
Is it necessary?
Is it real?
Is it indoctrinated?
Oft’ I wonder
Long into the night
When darkness abounds
Is it a pastime of fools?

‘Love’ . . . A lovely complication !

This simple poem covers a lot of complicated issues. The woman I have been seeing wants to call it quits after 18 months. She confesses that she had never been in love before. It was a new experience. There are now many stress inducing factors in her life. As a result I am being dumped so she can get her life together.
If love is sharing and caring why is the feeling abandoned when times get tough. Is love the obsession of poets or do fools pursue the notion until reality bites them on the butt?

Love is like the wind: we don’t really know where it comes from or where it is going. We do, however, recognize when it’s gone.

Love is science but then love can also be what a person wants it to me but for me it’s Illusive.

It certainly is (an enigma). And a very elusive one sometimes. Happy holidays, if you celebrate this particular one, Frank.

‘Love is a giddy thing’ as Shakespeare said. We could spend a lifetime trying to understand it and they’d still more to learn. Enjoyable poem and food for thought. Frank.
