Love Is A Mosquito

When you lay your guard down
Turn off all the lights
It comes and stings you

It takes time before you realise
The itch has captured you
It wouldn’t let you sleep in peace

You get up from your bed
Turn on the lights
Vainly look for the perpetrator

Disappointed, you get back in your bed
After the lights are turned off again
You promise yourself to take better precautions the next time

You lie awake
Thoughts circling your head
One hand scratching the itch

You begin to enjoy the itch
The stimulus grips you
You know it’s not right for you, but you secretly wish for more

  1. Once love bites you your stuck with the itch that follows. I enjoyed your writing style and message that you wanted to portray.

  2. Clever analogy, Frank. As the Everly Bros once sang: ‘Love hurts’, although you’re likening it more to an irresistible itch!
