I told myself a lie
A lie I scarce believed
I iterated that lie
The lie that I have lived
I let the old truth die
A truth of great essence
And say this with a sigh
Truth makes no difference
I told myself a lie
A lie I scarce believed
I iterated that lie
The lie that I have lived
I let the old truth die
A truth of great essence
And say this with a sigh
Truth makes no difference
What is truth, after all, but a lie in disguise.

Sadly enough you seem to be right yes. It seems to make less and less of a difference… At least in the outside world, in the inner world I tend to think that it still holds more power than one might think.🙏

Here in my ninth decade I have decided the meaning of life is to find satisfaction in observing, understanding, and marveling at the universe and all that’s in it! Nature knows no bounds.

Truth sets us free. It does make a difference and it remains truth whether we believe it or not, understand it or not.

DOES TRUTH NOT MATTER???? Living a lie has unforeseen consequences for generations thereafter. Good simple and attractive poem!

The first para is about me and the last line hits hard.

After all, truth and lies can be a matter of perspective…
I like this poem, but the first stanza says a bit more… at least for me 🙂

Let’s strive to know what is true. This poem while sounding downcast, for me is more of an awakening to push for truth and not give up.

Do you agree with the narrator that the truth makes no difference?

I think it would have made a difference, Frank, but the damage is done and probably too late…
