There Is Evil Watching Me

There is evil watching me

There is evil following me

Like a shadow of the day

Asking me to go astray

Evil greets me in the night

When I can’t put up a fight

All the good is left behind

When the dark evokes my mind

The light of the next day sun

Brings me to where I’d begun

I curse the Devil and his name

I don’t know if I’m the same

  1. The old night prayer hymn runs:
Take far away each hideous dream,
Things in the night that monstrous seem,
Wiles of our old arch-foe restrain
lest faltering flesh contract a stain.

It probably sounds better in Latin!

You are almost singing from the same sheet!

Keep it up, you’re in good company.

    Will.

  2. Frightening and poetic description true to the nature of a spiritual struggle. This is not meant to be preachy and is offered in the spirit of someone in the desert sharing the location of an oasis of water. In my understanding there is only one person superior to the enemy of the souls of men and that person is Jesus Christ, who defeated him and broke his power. He promises to not turn away any who come to him, and protects all that do and gives them the victory.
“The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.” says the 8th verse of the 3rd chapter of the 1st letter of the Apostle John. And in the 5th chapter it says, “18 We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.”
You can trust him. God bless you! Keep writing!
