Before the rains came, we prayed
All day long, afraid
If we’d done wrong, we played
Chants and holy songs, we made
Your home where we belong, prepared
Special food and water, we paid
Handsomely at the altar, we stayed
With our sons and daughters, obeyed
Every law and order, we prayed
Till the rains came

Beautiful poem!

And for some with short memories, once the rain came and their thirst was satisfied and their parched lands refreshed, they went back to their myopic world. And the prayers ended.

People used to follow the prey before the rains came because the prey ran to where the rains made hay, and the prey had a nose for where their food could be found in the grasses and grains that took root in moving fickle places and niches. But when people wanted to stay in one place they had to pray to somewhere in the clouds where they thought they saw a face.

and when their imaginary god didn’t respond back, they began to sacrifice and this kind of corruption began

We all pray for the favour of God and feel our lack when the rains don’t come and His judgement when sheets come and wash everything we have away. Nice / good prayer poem.

I enjoy hearing you read your poem. Quiet, Somber, Sincere.
I am wondering if in New York City they might have prayed to much.
(Not being critical or making fun ….. just a thought that came as I listened.) But they did get an abundance of rain. More than their fair share.
