Let’s start with the easy ones:

The computer is called der Computer
The laptop is called der Laptop
The internet is called das Internet
The email is called die E-mail
The website is called die Website
The spam is called der Spam

Let’s make it a little tricky:

The password is called das passwort
The mouse is called die Maus
The antivirus software is called die Antivirensoftware
Hacking is called hacken

Now let’s get to the tough ones:

The keyboard is called der Tastatur
The file is called die Datei
The folder is called der Ordner
The volume is called die Lautstärke
Settings is called Einstellungen

Now you’re on God level difficulty:

The noun ‘upload’ is called der upload
BUT the verb ‘upload’ is called hochladen
The noun ‘download’ is called der download
BUT the verb ‘download’ is called herunterladen
The mute button is called die Stummschalt-Taste
Camera on is called die Kamera eingeschaltet
Camera off is called die Kamera ausgeschaltet

  1. Yes. The German language is incorporating English words for modern inventions. Of course, Old English emerged out of German, so a lot of words sound similar—but the grammar is difficult. I studied in high school. You’re reminding me that I need to get studying again…
