where have all the capitals gone?

  1. It’s better than those that capitalize the first letter of each line as if it is the start of a sentence even if it is mid-thought. I find that kills the flow as I try to read them. I’ll use punctuation when line breaks and capitalization don’t carry the flow as I’d like.

  2. If a poem feels like it requires the use of capital letters, I run with it. If it feels like it needs to be more free without them, I go with that. It just depends on the poem.

  3. I have a tendency, myself, toward eschewing capitalization and punctuation in my poetry. Not sure why. Looser, perhaps? Not as confining? Shrug. Just this week, though, I submitted a poem I’d recently written where I do employ both.

    So there’s that!
