Nick and Tim walked warily in the dingy room. Although short of breath, they were careful not to heave heavily.
“Where are we?” Nick whispered.
“I’m as clueless as you are,” Tim replied. “But the luscious aroma tells me…”
“Shh… hide. I hear someone coming.”
Nick and Tim tip-toed away from the sound and ducked in a corner hoping it would be a spot where they would not be spotted.
Nick’s heart beat like a rabbit’s who’s chased by a ravenous wolf. He felt things were about to take a wicked twist but he stopped short of laying his apprehensions out in front of Tim. It was, after all, his idea to come here in the first place. He wanted to go back but he didn’t have the courage to say it to Tim who would waste no time in rebuking him with a ‘I told you so’.
“Do you not smell it?” Tim whispered. “This is, I believe, the…”
“Shh… the footsteps are getting closer.”
