Take my hand and promise me
You won’t ever let go of me
Never ever let my skin erode
Or ever let my head explode
Never let my heart skip a beat
Or let my eyes grow obsolete
Never let me feel a pain
In my knees or in my brain
Let my neck endure no ache
Or ever let my backbone break
Just ensure that there’s no sign
In my body of decline
Still if He sends the Angel of Death
To break my nerves and take my breath
Rip apart my bones and skin
Grab hold of all my love within
Keep it in your heart and preserve
There, for eternity, I will serve
Now that was apt. On the other side of a midlife crisis, with a crook knee denting my over-blown cycling aspirations and my ego lying tattered and crushed in the dust by the side of the road, it made me chuckle.

That was the whole intention. A chuckle.

Love this! Unfortunately no love on this earth can ever make any of the promises asked for..

Hello, Mr. Frank! Have you ever fallen for someone who still has feelings for someone no longer there? How should one deal with that? Move on?

No. Understand those feelings and respect them.

Interesting poem because no one can make such a promise, however much we want to. A “real person dilemma” poem. Thanks! Kristen Barney

As we get older we realize there’s more to life that the external. Grab all you can, and give all you can.
