I Left The Window Open And A Dame Came In

I left the window open
And a dame came in
Pretty and beautiful
She found a spot within
A little soft corner in
The depths of my heart
She stayed for a little while
Then things fell apart
She left me and was gone
Except her memory
Now she’ll be in my head
As an unsolved mystery
Where would she be now?
Is there a clue to show?
I wonder sometimes why
She came in through the window

  1. Dear Frank, I am so glad to have discovered your poems which I always enjoy because of your great ability to rhyme words without sounding artificial. Your poems possess a special musicality, they all contain powerful messages and beautifully written images. Besides, you are a good communicator of feelings and thoughts and I am sure that must make your poems accessible to many people, even to those not used to reading poetry. This poem about the dame coming through the window is lovely, oneiric, it seems to suggest someone longing for love but not being able to fulfill it. It is like a dream, you wake up and the magic moments are gone. All that remains are memories. You deal with a universal topic, where we can all identify ourselves with. Our conscious mind is locked or under control, but the subconscious leaves an open window to dreaming, to the dame. I wrote an art-based poem that I think bears great connections with yours. 2. I dont know why but it reminds me of an old film called Brief Encounter – how the main character can’t stop thinking of him. They met only because she had something in her eye and that’s when it started.

  3. Did she have green eyes by chance? I only ask because this reminded me of a similar write that I remember reading a few years ago… very mysterious window lady. 👍🏼
