A Long Lost Friend

Restless river, sparkling sea

Tell me what I ought to be

Standing upon the silver sand

Searching for a long lost friend

With the waves crashing at my feet

Just one person I’d like to meet

Bring him back to the shore

And everything will be like before

I shall greet him on his way

Without any further delay

And that moment shall forever last

Without any fear of the past

Rising river, soaring sea

Help me bring a change in me

Sighing upon the silver sand

Help me find a long lost friend

  1. Friends are the most precious things in our lives. Missing them is the worst feeling, as if a part of you has been emptied. Beautiful. ♥

I’d love if you can check out my writings? Your feedback could be sooo helpful to me bc I always wanna get better, and some day as good as you

  2. This sad poem reminds me of
“I keep thinking about this river somewhere, with the water moving really fast. And these two people in the water, trying to hold onto each other, holding on as hard as they can, but in the end it’s just too much. The current’s too strong. They’ve got to let go, drift apart. That’s how it is with us. It’s a shame, Kath, because we’ve loved each other all our lives. But in the end, we can’t stay together forever.”

  3. one can be happy , one can be full of gratitude …don’t mind my words Frank , but I would like it if you write about the happiness in your life too , we need to truly feel gratitude to feel happiness , one day I would like to see you write about cheerfulness , lets be happy for today , now …and I am your friend 🙂 I pray for you let the bird of cheerfulness make a nest in your heart.

  4. I’ve enjoyed you poems, now here is one of mine.

    What You See

What you see — when you see me

is not the me — I seem to be,

Lines and blemish, — shapes of face

do not convey — the life I raced.

You cannot see the child that once I’d been,

the teen gone bye, adulthood’s gems.

Nor can you see the joys I’ve known,

the pains I’ve shared, — or love I’ve sown.

Though in some lines you are sure to see

the smiles I’ve shared and tears some gleaned,

Though miles and miles and miles of lines,

conveyed expressions of good, bad or happy times.

This is not me, — not all in one,

for I am much more — than this visage sum.

So what you see when you see me

is not the me — my life complete.

In all candor the one you see

is the fractured image you want of me.

  5. I really like this, there’s a calamity in the rhythm of the words. I would remove ‘And’ from ‘And everything will be like before’, replacing it with a comma at the end of the line above, or perhaps a hyphen. ‘And’ isn’t adding anything significant to the poem, and is only making this line quite clumsy. Otherwise, I enjoyed reading it :).

  6. Omg!!! 😍😍😍
This is so sweet…. It just reminded me of my friend. Not that he’s long lost… But still…
    The emotion is touching 😍😍😘

          1. I don’t know your situation, but what do we do? If we are missing someone, do we reach out? I mean, why keep missing someone if it can be avoided? I don’t know. In my case I don’t want to be overbearing. But like your poem says, “help me bring a change in me”, maybe (very possibly) this is all in me. That I’m the problem and causing my own problem.

              1. Meaning to continue the suffering until they are ready? Or reach out not knowing if it will cause more suffering? This friend is definitely worth it, but how to know whether they value my worth in their life? Or even want me in their life?

                  1. Yes, patience is difficult for me. Especially when I want people I care about to know they are valued. I don’t ever want someone important to me to think otherwise. What if they are gone tomorrow? I have lived that nightmare and wish to never do it again. So patience can be difficult.

                    1. Very true. I am generally an optimistic person. I really do pick out the good in situations. But you are molded by your past and mine very clearly taught me not to take people, time, etc for granted. It made me the person I am to be myself all the time, speak my truth, be grateful, all these wonderful things. It just also made me realize that time drops through our fingers, which sometimes causes impatience. But you’re right, the present is the important moment. Not the past.
