All That I Will Ever Need

If this street was dark

With no light with me

I will close my eyes

And your face is what I’ll see

And I will get through

Thinking of you

You’re all the light I’ll ever need

And you’ll make me smile

If for a while

You are all that I will ever need

…

I look up and I see

Stars lighting up the sky

Moon hiding behind the clouds

And I don’t know why

I feel you are near

With me here

Your voice ringing in my ear

And I will get through

Thinking of you

And bring down a star or two

For you’re all the light I’ll ever need

And you are all that I will ever need

All that I will ever need

  4. I love it. At the beginning I thought it’ll just be another cliché about someone being another’s “light”. But I realise you don’t overdo it. Its beauty is in its simplicity. 👍

      1. I was thinking about this post and my own post on God being everything I will ever need. I’ve gone through various losses and in the end, God is the one who is always there for me. For that reason, I can see this poem as being written about God as well as about a lost loved one.

          1. We all are both. No one is beyond fault and sin. That said, your heart is truly not the run of the mill. Most do not see the world through the eyes of love. It’s just the sad state of affairs today. For that reason alone you are a treasure. And everyone who reads your words knows it. I know it.
